I don’t want to do this, I really don’t want to be negative, but man, what Nintendo just announced isn’t sitting right with me. See, they announced the Nintendo World Championships NES Edition, and I just feel like this is a bit of a bait and switch, no pun intended. I attended the Nintendo World Championships back in the day, that competition focused on 3 different games. You had to collect 50-coins as fast as possible in Super Mario Bros, get past the first track in Rad Racer, and with the remaining time, you tried to get as high of a score as possible in Tetris. The problem with this release? It’s not that ROM, it’s not that game, and in such, it’s not truly the Nintendo World Championships.
Looking at the teaser trailer, this “game” appears to be more about continuing the legacy of what was NES Remix 1 and 2 on the Wii U and the 3DS. And don’t get me wrong, I have those games and love them, they are so much fun, but they are not a Nintendo World Championship ROM. Now, if this releases has the Nintendo World Championships cart setup PLUS the other options, ok, that’s fantastic. But right now, meh, I am not as excited now as I was after hearing the initial news.
