Putin says Sweden, Finland NATO bid no threat to Russia but may ‘trigger response’.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the West that if NATO began to strengthen the military infrastructure of Sweden and Finland.
Who both elected to join the US military alliance after the invasion of Ukraine, Russia would respond.
Since the last day of 1999, Putin, Russia's supreme leader, has identified the post-Soviet enlargement of the NATO alliance eastwards into Russia's borders as a cause of the Ukraine conflict.
Putin told the leaders of a Russian-led military alliance of former Soviet republics that NATO expansion was being utilised by the US in a "aggressive" manner to exacerbate an already challenging global security situation.
