Interpolation is the process of reconstruction of continuous time signals from its discrete time samples. In this video 3 methods of interpolation have been explained: ideal interpolation, simple interpolation (zero order hold) and linear interpolation (first order hold). I have tried to explain the intricacies of the topic using animations.
Starting from the concepts of sampling a signal using sampling theorem, at first, the ideal filtering process is demonstrated using an ideal low pass filter in the frequency domain. The discussion is then extended to the time domain. Further, the zero order hold and the first order filtering process is explained using the gate pulses and triangular pulses respectively.
The performance of all the 3 filters is also compared in the frequency domain.
At the end, a numerical problem is discussed that covers the entire process of sampling and reconstruction using an ideal filter.
