Temperomandibular joint is the jaw joint, the joint in front of your ear which articulates with your skull. It is the most commonly used joint in the body. When we make a facial expression, when we chew, suck, eat, breathe etc. There are patients who come largely with ear pain which may last more than a week and invariably if you don’t find a problem with the ear majority of these patients suffer from TM joint syndrome. Because the joint goy misused or has got injured there will be symptoms in and around the joint causing pain. The pain will be generally localised in front of the ear around the eyes, around the jaw, below the ear near the neck or sometimes even in the throat. In variably these pain will be accentuated with jaw movements. While eating, talking on the phone it tends to abut onto the joint and the joint moves with speaking and cause pain. While sleeping on one side the joint gets pushed and then they will get pain. So this pain syndrome in the facial region in and around the joint is called temperomandibular joint syndrome.
