This On The Road Special Edition with Stevie Kim is all about Barbera D'Asti and the Monferrato region in the southeast corner of Piedmont, in northwestern Italy.
This is DAY 2 of the deep dive into this important historical region and once again Stevie is the guest of Vitaliano Maccario, president of "Il Consorzio Barbera d’Asti e Vini del Monferrato".
Today Stevie sits down with Stefano Chiarlo, owner of Cantina Michele Chiarlo. Here, Stevie tastes two of the winery's flagship labels Barbera d'Asti DOCG
Le Orme and Nizza DOCG Cipressi, learning about the winemaking techniques behind these high quality labels.
Next, Stevie visits the Scarpa and chats to Davide Champion, the company's CEO. Davide explains the significance of the winery's benchmark label, La Bogliona.
Stevie then heads to the historic Coppo, one of the oldest wineries in Italy, where she meets Giuditta Soldadino, the vineyard's owner. Stevie samples Monteriolo, the distinctive Chardonnay, L’Avvocata, named in honour of a previous owner of the vineyard, and Pomorosso, Coppo's prestigious Barbera.
Finally, Stevie meets Clementina Cossetti, owner of the Cossetti winery, where she samples Viognier, partly fermented in new Grenier tonneaux, La Vigna Vecchia, a historic Barbera d'Asti DOCG, and Crivelletto, 100% Barbera aged in wood for 18 months.
