Reactions to the Ukraine war from journalists and politicians have been in stark contrast to the Syrian refugee crisis in 2015. Many have pointed out that Ukrainian refugees are more 'civilised', more 'European' and even more 'intelligent'.
European countries have opened their borders and waived the asylum process to allow safe and swift entry to those fleeing Russian aggression. The same countries attacked Syrian and Afghan refugees and refused to accept them in 2015. Thousands are still trapped on the borders of Poland, Lithuania and Belarus today.
All of this begs the question: are some refugees more sympathetic than others?
