Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the standards of his ruling People's Action Party have not slipped, after two MPs resigned over an "inappropriate relationship". Tan Chuan-Jin quit as Speaker of Parliament and MP for Marine Parade GRC, while Cheng Li Hui ended her stint as Tampines GRC MP. There are now three vacant PAP seats, after former senior minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam stepped down to run for president. Mr Lee said this will not trigger a General Election, as other MPs in the affected constituencies will ensure residents are looked after. Mr Lee says he will make a ministerial statement and nominate a new Speaker at the next Parliament session on Aug 1.
