Bone mineral density test is a test where we measure the density of the bone. Basically the mineralization of the bone, per unit volume o f the bone. S o it can be measured by various methods. The common method is the DEXA Scan Method or the Ultrasound Method. It can be done by CT method also. The gold standard test which is widely accepted is DEXA Scan which will let you know about the dentistry of the bone. But commonly you might have seen in ultrasound method it is easy to be done and which will be done in clinics. Though it is a screening method of doing, more information will be available with the DEXA Method of bone mineral density. Ideally the bone mineral density should be done in women after menopause or in age more than 50 years it shod be repeated once in 5 years . If there is any decrease in bone mineral density , then it can be done as and when required by the clinicians like if the patient is taking steroids or a chemotherapy agents or disuse atrophy is there. So the clinician will decide if there are any high risk for decreased bone mineral density , then the test will be advocated much earlier also.
