CINCINNATI (WKRC) - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and health care providers here and around the country are sharing new research for survivors.

This option is a newer way to perform breast cancer reconstruction after a mastectomy. It is performed by surgeons here and around the country.

Some women complain after traditional surgery that they have lost sensation in the breast when it's reconstructed; others say it almost feels like there is an ace bandage around the chest.

The newer way to perform reconstruction is to remove previous breast implants and replace them with tissue and nerves from the abdomen. It can make women more comfortable, and in many cases, restore some of that numbness or lack of sensation.
