Mallorytown Ontario. Located 138 miles west of Montreal's Central Station, is a small town located on CN's Kingston Subdivision. Near Brockville Ontario.
There's no yard, engine facilities or station in Mallorytown. What makes Mallorytown important is that it's a control point, interlocking, or "plant" in CN's terms. A series of switches that allows trains to crossover from one set of tracks to the next. Also, there is a hotbox detector right beside the plant.
It may look like a quiet place but looks are deceiving. Construction crews are already working on building a new third "passing" track west of this location. The Canadian Government is providing funds (over $350 million) so that CN can build a new third track in strategic places along the Montreal-Toronto Corridor for VIA Rail....and Mallorytown is right in the smack of it. New signals are already in place on the south track. New switches and rails will be added west of the interlocking. Things are gonna change and this location will become busier!
For the time being, enjoy this little video of Railfanning Mallorytown Ontario. Three VIA trains were captured within 15 minutes on Good Friday. Not bad for a holiday!
