In Peru and much of the Andean region of South America, you'll find coca leaves being used to help with everything from altitude sickness to indigestion. And although it is the same plant that is used to make cocaine, this is not a dangerous party drug; rather, coca leaves are revered and believed to possess a spirit. This is why they are often used for ceremonial purposes.
