Originally purposed as a promotional vehicle for the 7UP Bottling Company, Ford agreed to design and produce 30 of these unique Mustang convertibles with a color combo to coincide with the soft drink's logo. The cars were to be given away as part of a promotion during the 1990 NCAA basketball finals. However, at the last minute and for reasons unknown, the promotion was canceled.
Instead of abandoning the concept, Ford chose to produce a limited-edition Mustang model, which served to preserve the company’s design investment while also satisfying enthusiasts’ demand. Although not officially a 25th anniversary model, the cars became known as the 7-Up 25th Anniversary Edition convertibles. The new model appealed to buyers with 4,103 sold, all in Deep Emerald Jewel Green with a white leather interior.
While most 7-Up convertibles were used as daily drivers, this example shows just 35,874 miles on its odometer. It will sell at no reserve on Thursday, Jan. 12 as part of the Kenny and Marilyn Newcombe Mustang Collection in Kissimmee, Florida.
