9. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Alfonsina Russo, Director of the Archaeological Park of Colosseum:
“We need to picture an extraordinary facade that overlooked this place, the Temple of the Vestals and toward the Roman Forum, specifically to amaze the population, and it was a facade decorated with marbles, which can be admired in the rooms set up inside the “Clivus Victoriae ( the Hill of Victory)”, deep inside the Domus TIberiana, helping us understand the ability of the master decorators and of the artisans that decorated the Palace. Also, Marziale himself (Roman poet of the first century AC) said it was an infinite palace, that touched the stars and its grandiosity was just like the grandiosity of the sky.”

15. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Gennaro Sangiuliano, Italian Minister of Culture:
“With the opening of the Domus Tiberiana we are adding another element to the richness of the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum, it has been closed for many years, from the Seventies. (Because of this) Unfortunately, entire generations weren’t able to see it and appreciate it, so it is an important piece adding up and, above all, restoring a certain circularity between the Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum.”

18. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Alfonsina Russo, Director of the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum:
“During the lockdown we dug a space that was left untouched for centuries, and (that allowed us to) put together thirteen centuries of history. It was a place that somehow went forgotten, even Pietro Rosa, (Italian politician and archaeologist of the nineteenth century) who was digging these places during Napoleon the Third, didn’t touch anything. So, it is the only space that remains intact until now and, in the past years we studied everything we found, precisely to tell a story that goes up to the Farnese (Italian dynasty of the Renaissance) and to the nineteenth century.”
