Q: Will my aborted, stillborn or miscarried baby be in heaven?
A: We’ve got a hard question today—and I have a word for anyone finding themselves in the place of having to ask this question. I am so sorry. I am terribly sorry for whatever battles you’ve been fighting. I’m so sorry for the great loss of hope, identity, and community you’re feeling. Whether you lost your baby or felt like you had to make a hard decision to terminate your pregnancy, I want to offer hope to you today. I know that there is a lot of controversy surrounding abortion in the news right now and always, but I am not here to judge the your reasoning—I want to let you know that there is good reason to believe that your baby is saved and that you’ll be reunited in heaven one day.
Here’s why it makes sense.
Lets start in Psalm 139:16 "Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them." I do believe that this verse establishes that each life begins at conception and that God considers every fetus a precious life.
God has provided the means of redemption for every life. He has done this by sending His Son, and your baby doesn’t need to understand how God’s grace works to become a recipient of it! The best part is—you don’t need to have done anything special to get it-no christening or baptizing or saying special prayers.
Next, The Bible presents an idea that Christians call the "age of accountability." There’s not a lot on this concept but Look at Isaiah 7:15 and 16 with me. (NIV) 15 He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, 16 for before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.
In this verse the prophet Isaiah is saying that before the boy knows the difference between right and wrong, there will be an invasion. This passage seems to indicate that children are not responsible for their own actions and decisions until they reach a certain age. Now we don’t know what that age is because it’s going to be different for every child, but it’s the age where they are emotionally and spiritually mature enough to reason and to make decisions about right and wrong.
If all this is true, and I believe it is, your baby was a valued person who was too young to accept any moral responsibility but whos got his or her original fallen nature covered by Christ. This means that there is a VERY great likelihood that you’ll hold your baby again one day.
If this is something you want prayer for, please contact me. I've got several volunteers working with me and we would be honored to pray with and for you. My heart is with you!
