In Super Metroid for the SNES, it's possible to jump way higher than normal if you're underwater and you have the Gravity Suit. It's called the Gravity Jump and it's a real simple trick.
If you're under water (or under acid or lava) here's how to perform the Gravity Jump glitch. Essentially all you need to do is start your jump with the Gravity Suit equipped, then pause the game and unequip the Gravity Suit as Samus is still traveling upward. Just make sure you press and hold the jump button as you pause, unequip the Gravity Suit, and unpause. Basically keep holding the jump button for the entirety of the jump.
You'll achieve better results if you unequip the Gravity Suit immediately after you start your jump, so it's best if you hit the pause button first, then press and hold jump just before the gameplay fades out. It takes a little practice, but you can master it.
This trick can be applied in many places. Here I used it to enter Ridley's Lair without using the Space Jump upgrade.
