Well, I think that perhaps the biggest challenge is that as health care providers we are trained to cure and to make everything all better. In the case of cerebral palsy, there isn't an absolute cure. The condition has associated issues that a child in one form or another is probably going to have to grapple with for life and so that's hard. On the other hand with persistent therapies and work, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a child make progress. To see a child who maybe isn't able to walk but gets their first power chair and zooms down the hall with that big grin on their face, and to help kids have as much autonomy as they possibly can and stay as healthy as they possibly can--that's the reward.
