Our first full day on Skye, blustery, showers and sun, in a land of rainbows, and the first stop and flight was a the Museum of Island Life in Kimuir, just down from Flora MacDonald's grave..
The museum was sadly shut as we were in the area out of season, but the old blackhouses were looking amazing, and with the rainbow filled views to Lewis and Harris across the Minch, well, it just had to be filmed - despite the winds!

Step back in time and experience how islanders really lived at the unique and informative Skye Museum of Island Life. Thatched cottages, old tools...see what it was like in days gone by.
Walking into the museum is like stepping back in time to an old Highland village. The museum, which consists of seven traditional thatched cottages, offers visitors a unique experience and a true insight into island life 100 years ago. Opened in 1965, the aim of the museum was to completely preserve a township of thatched cottages, each depicting the conditions that 19th century crofters faced.
Among the many displays, is the old Graham family home, the village smithy, the weaver's house, and a vast array of crofting tools, displays and equipment. There are also pictorial and historical archives, including the story of Flora MacDonald, who famously disguised Bonnie Prince Charlie as a spinning maid and smuggled him to safety.
