These are the two things I thought about before leaving academia.

I left academia in my early thirties. At that time you feel like you need to make a quick decision because you are 'old'. The worst thing you can do is panic and leave without a game plan. Also, those closest to you just don't understand why you'd want to leave!

It took two years before I felt like I could leave and tackle the unknown.
