Poker faced French cyberpunks Chrysalide have caused all kinds of waves recently for being one of the few genuinely original bands in some time. Sure, on the surface journos jump to easy Skinny Puppy comparisons but the multi-leveled sonic greatness of this band isn't that easy to pinpoint.
Imagine the complexity of cEvin Key's Download, the intentionally broken rhythms of Velvet Acid Christ and the impeccable programming of Haujobb, all arranged for premium dancefloor domination. However elements of mangled drum 'n' bass and dubstep make it obvious there is a full generation separating Chrysalide from those acts. It's a rare talent to make industrial music that doesn't sound tired in some way but Chrysalide have pulled it off.
The album 'Don't Be Scared, It's About Life' was universally acclaimed for its schizophrenic mix of precision noise, punctuated by jarring classical interludes. There's a scary intensity here that we haven't heard in far too long - the kind of serious intent that actually makes you wonder if it's a good idea to stand next the stage or a few feet back. Just in case.
