"The spire of Notre Dame is again standing tall in the Paris sky. It took workers about two months to remove the scaffolding that encased it, and we wanted to show you this with a time-lapse, so we headed up to the terrace of the legendary Tour D'Argent restaurant, which offers a spectacular vantage point onto the cathedral, and we took thousands of photos. The resulting video helps to get a sense of how monumental this project is."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Alex Turnbull, Associated Press reporter:
"After the 2019 fire that saw the spire come crashing down through the roof, they brought in master carpenters, led welders, scaffolding experts to work from a giant temporary structure. And finally, last December, after several years of hard work, the new spire was adorned with a cross and a weathervane in the form of a golden rooster. President Macron had pledged to complete the entire renovation within five years. It will take a tiny bit longer than that, but more of the scaffolding will come down in coming months, and there's a good chance that Notre Dame will shine during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games in July."

7. Notre Dame cathedral on fire, spire falling, huge plume of smoke
STORYLINE:
Scaffolding that shrouded the top of Notre Dame cathedral following a devastating fire in April 2019 is being removed, revealing the cathedral’s new spire for the first time, adorned with a golden rooster and cross.
This marks a milestone in the cathedral's reconstruction, and offers a glimpse of the building's expected appearance upon completion.
There has been anticipation among Paris residents as Notre Dame is on track to reopen Dec. 8.
Much of the cathedral remains surrounded by scaffolding, which could take weeks if not months to remove.
"After the 2019 fire that saw the spire come crashing through the roof, they brought in master carpenters, lead welders, scaffolding experts to work from a giant temporary structure," said Alexander Turnbull, a reporter with The Associated Press.
