As motorists, we need to share the road safely with cyclists.
Always be aware of where a cyclist is and give them plenty of space.
Cyclists should ride as close to the curb as is safe and practicable, but sometimes they may have to ride closer to the middle of the lane to avoid hazards.
Treat a cyclist like a slow-moving vehicle. Do not tailgate.
When passing, leave a safe distance. At least one metre of space is encouraged. In some situations, you may need to change lanes.
When turning right, yield to cyclists. If you plan to turn right at the next intersection, don’t pass a cyclist.
And look for cyclists before opening car doors.
Cyclists should always shoulder check and use hand signals to communicate with drivers.
Sharing the road is a two way street. Be courteous and respectful so all road users can be safe.
