A Silverburst Les Paul Custom was my first guitar. I bought it brand new at the Fort Wayne, Indiana Guitar Center. They didn't have one in stock so I had to order it in from Gibson. Before that guitar, I was playing on an Epiphone Les Paul Special II and a Silverburst Epiphone Les Paul Custom that my parents had purchased me. I also had a few other cheap guitars. The Les Paul Custom was my first Gibson and the first Gibson I ever touched. Once I got that guitar, I had it in my head, I needed a really nice Stratocaster. I googled 'cool looking Strat' and found the antigua finish. That finish was only made in the late 70s on Strats so that was the guitar that got me started in 'vintage' guitars... the rest is history!
The Silverburst finish was first introduced on a few prototypes in 1977 and released in limited numbers in 1978. 1979 is the first official 'big' year for the color though and often mistaken as the first year of production because of that. Should you buy a vintage or new one? Well, that depends on personal preference. Specs are different on earlier silver bursts as they will have maple necks. I have a separate video that goes into some of those details - [ Ссылка ]
This particular Silverburst was a lot of fun to play. I thought it sounded and played great. The next owner will be very happy with this one! It brought back a lot of fun memories.
