The Other Final tells the story of a remarkable football game played on the 30th June 2002, the same day as the World Cup final in Japan. Between the worlds two lowest FIFA-ranked teams; Bhutan and Montserrat (No. 202 and 203).
Bhutan is a remote mountainous Himalayan kingdom and Montserrat is a small Caribbean island with seven active volcanoes. The game was played in Thimphu, Bhutan.
The film uses football as a device to explore the contrasting cultures of the teams, and shows how football can be a global language uniting people. The story, told through interviews and beautifully photographed on 16mm, is of a unique cultural meeting. It begins on Montserrat and culminates at the game attended by 20,000 spectators in Bhutan.
