On Oct. 4, 2010, the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL/КХЛ) and the National Hockey League (NHL/НХЛ) participated in the 2010 Compuware NHL Premier Challenge, which featured Dynamo Riga (Latvia) vs. Phoenix Coyotes (USA), along with SKA St. Petersburg (Russia) vs. Carolina Hurricanes (USA).
My buddy Roma and I attended the SKA vs. Carolina game and it was a lot of fun! The game was quite chippy, with several fights and 5 players ejected, and had obvious undertones of national pride. The crowd was so hyped throughout!
To date, there have been just 3 games where KHL and NHL teams have squared off against each other. The NHL leads the series 2-1.
