Join me as I sail the Prinz Eugen to victory on the Warrior’s Path battle map. She was the third ship in the Admiral Hipper heavy cruiser line. Prinz Eugen was no stranger to combat, before she was completed a bombing run by the British. The Prinz Eugen only suffered minor damage as she sat in drydock. She was sent with the Bismarck on Operation Rheinübung. After separating from the Bismarck, she continued out to the Atlantic to engage in commerce raiding but had to turn back after she suffered engine failure. In 1942 she was patrolling the waters off Trondheimsfjorden when she was torpedoed by the British sub HMS Trident. The damage was so severe that she was towed back to Germany for repairs. The Prinz Eugen spent the rest of the war providing offshore artillery support for German troops on the Eastern Front. She was surrendered to the Royal Navy on May 7, 1945. Prinz Eugen was gifted to the United States at the end of 1945. The US Navy was worried that she would fall into the hands of the USSR and decided to use her in Operation Crossroads. Once at the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean, Prinz Eugen survived both atomic bomb explosions but was severely irradiated. She was then towed to Kwajalein Atoll, after arriving she began to take on water and list heavily. There were several attempts to keep her from sinking but were unsuccessful. December 22, 1946, Prinz Eugen capsized in the shallow waters of the atoll where she remains visible today.
