Are you someone who loves Aldi’s prices and product but is looking for a more convenient shopping option? Let's take a look at Aldi’s Curbside Pickup and whether or not it's worth it.
If you’ve watched this channel before, you may know that I’m a big fan of the discount grocer Aldi but have mixed feelings about the actual shopping experience. That’s why I was recently excited to see that they now offered a curbside pickup option that would hopefully make my life a little easier. So how does Aldi’s curbside pickup work? Let’s take a look at what you need to know about this new offering.
The first thing to know about Aldi Curbside pickup is that the offering is powered by Instacart, with the same ordering system in place
Incidentally, the way I first discovered the new pickup option was while I was looking to place an Instacart order for delivery. As I mentioned in a previous video, I’ve recently fallen in love with Instacart’s service — as expensive as it may be. That’s why I was excited to find that the process of placing an Aldi Curbside Pickup order is extremely similar to a regular delivery order in many ways.
For one, you select all of your items the same way — including the added bonus of being able to search through Aldi Finds. Then, after you’ve placed your order, you can see your shopper adding items in real-time and communicate with them in the event that substitutions or additions are needed. The only real difference during this part is that the shopper will likely be an Aldi Associate.
Then after the Associate has prepared your order, they’ll keep it in a temperature-controlled environment until you pick it up. Speaking of pickups, just you can select a delivery window, you can also choose a pickup time, with windows lasting one hour each.
Next, in terms of costs, currently, the fees for pickup start at $1.99 but the food prices may differ from in-store
While I think Instacart is pretty great on the whole, there’s no denying that the fees they charge include delivery fees and service fees can really add up. That’s why I was excited to see that the Aldi Pickup option carries fees as low as $1.99. However, this does go up to $3.99 if your order totals less than $35. Something else to note is that there are no service fees, but you may need to pay a few cents for paper bags. Also, according to the Aldi site, Associates do not accept tips.
Of course, like with Aldi delivery, there is a chance that your favorite items may cost a bit more than they would in-store. Personally, I haven’t noticed any glaring discrepancies but I did see that the private label seltzers I buy are $.30 more on the app than in-store. Still, even with these possible markups, most of Aldi’s items bear great prices.
When it’s time to pick up your order, you can choose to let the store know you're coming and can follow signs to the designated parking
If you’d like to make your pickup even quicker, you can opt-in to location services so that your local Aldi will know when you’re on your way to the store. That said, you can skip this option and instead just inform them once you’ve arrived. Speaking of arriving, be sure to check for the designated parking areas, marked with numbers and Curbside Pickup signage.
In my experience, our Aldi Associate was out within a minute of us pulling up and we were on our way in just a few seconds. OF course, as this feature catches on, this could change but, for now, it seems to be a super speedy process.
Overall, I was really impressed with the Aldi Curbside Pickup option and see is a great alternative to splurging for delivery
For me, Aldi’s Curbside Pickup is a legitimate gamechanger. In fact, while it may take a little more effort than getting delivery, I may actually prefer the pickup experience — especially when you consider the cost savings. With fees starting at $2, I think this is a no-brainer in the current climate and I look forward to utilizing this service many times in the future.
