Sixty years ago today, July 6, 1964, the first film of The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night, premiered at the Pavilion Theatre in London, England, with the general release the following day in the U.K.
All the songs in this medley were written by Lennon & McCartney, and were in the film, except for I'll Cry Instead. It was to be used during the fire escape sequence, but the director, Richard Lester, vetoed it out in favour of the more lyrically upbeat Can't Buy Me Love. I'll Cry Instead's status as an early contender for inclusion led to the song being included on the North American soundtrack album.
I, personally, didn't see the movie until August 1964, when it was released in Canada and the U.S. After seeing how much fun these four had entertaining, I continued self learning the guitar and bass, which eventually led to the ukulele.
I used a Franner solid body baritone ukulele (in the style of a Fender Strat guitar), and played it through a Boss ME25 effects pedal and a Strymon Big Sky reverb pedal into a Fishman LoudBox Mine amplifier.
