정부, '北석탄 불법환적' 홍콩 선사•북한 선박 독자제재
South Korea has imposed unilateral sanctions on a Hong Kong-based shipping company HK Yilin Shipping, and the North Korean vessel Tok Song.
The 3-thousand-ton ship De Yi, owned by HK Yilin Shipping, was involved in the illegal transfer of North Korean anthracite coal mounting to 45-hundred tons using Tok Song, which is banned under international sanctions.
According to South Korea's foreign ministry and National Intelligence Service, the government seized the De Yi vessel from waters off the country's south coast near Yeosu in March, after receiving intelligence from the U.S. that it was violating the UNSC resolutions against North Korea.
The Foreign Ministry said the sanctions demonstrate South Korea's "strong commitment to thwarting North Korea's illegal maritime activities and deterring its illicit nuclear and missile development."
