In this VLOG I talk about how I found records in Ukraine for my Jewish Genealogy Research. To start finding records I needed as much as information about my immigrant ancestors, especially pertaining to any dates from when they were still in Ukraine. Researching my Waxman family I was able to find a lot of information on my Great-Grandmother and her parents, including some information on her grandparents (my 3rd-Great Grandparents).
I also needed to find the town name of my family but luckily that had been passed down through the generations and was also confirmed through many different documents including military records, naturalization records, and more. The town was Tulchin (Tulchyn) in Vinnytsia, Ukraine and my next step was to find out what records were available for this town. Using websites such as Routes to Roots by Miriam Weiner, JewishGen.org, and Kehila Links run by JewishGen I was able to find all sorts of available documents and the archives which held them.
From there I had three options; Find these documents online, travel to the archives myself, or hire a genealogist. Unfortunately these documents were not digitized or available online and traveling to Ukraine isn't an option available for me anytime soon. So I sought out a genealogist and through a reference from Alex Krakovsky I was able to get in touch with Sergii Fazulyanov (Сергій Фазульянов), a genealogist based in the Vinnytsia region. Sergii was able to find a lot of relevant documents which confirmed our family through correlation of names, relations, and dates. He was also able to determine my Waxman family had actually been Waxer (more literally Vakser - Ваксер) and was able to find a possible 3rd-Great Uncle. We only hired Sergii to go through a portion of what is available, so there is definitely more research which can be conducted.
