The ego made up this time and space cosmos to keep you mindless, and you will never really be able to adapt to this environment of time and space. Why? Because God did not create it. You will only be happy in your natural environment, which is Spirit. The Kingdom of Heaven is Within, and Christ is Our Identity.
The ego has made a world of projection and in A Course in Miracles, Jesus teaches us that projection is the attempt to get rid of something that you do not want. But this will not work. If you really want to get rid of the ego, you have to forgive it. You have to reel in the projections and let them go.
The ego doesn't want you to know that you even have a mind! You will get tempted many times to get upset with something on the screen of the world, for the ego never wants you to look for the problem in your mind. The ego is always saying that something is not right with the outside picture. Yet, the Workbook in A Course In Miracles can train your mind to withdraw these projections from the screen, and see the cause of the pain is within. When you start to realize "I can be hurt by nothing but my thoughts", you will start to bring your attention back to your mind, and this is exactly where the attention needs to be.
Somewhere deep inside, you believe that you have separated from God. that you tried to rip your thoughts away from Him, and that you had the power to make a whole new kingdom of your own. And now you believe that God will strike you blind and destroy you if you ever try to return home to His Kingdom. This is what the ego teaches. In contrast, The Holy Spirit is teaching that you never did what you thought you did. God is not angry with you but Loves you unconditionally. And this is why Jesus told the story of The Prodigal Son over and over when he was on earth. This message of unconditional innocence must be heard many, many times to wash away the ego's message of guilt and fear.
In Lesson 132, Jesus says there is no world apart from what you think. He reminds us very lovingly to keep our focus on the correction and on the forgiveness, and not on this world. He tells us that you are not responsible for the error, but only for accepting the correction of the error. Our purpose then is to do exactly what Jesus did: accept the Atonement which is the correction for the belief in separation.
