Russia's Typhoon class, with a total submerged weight exceeding 48,000 tons, stands as the world's largest and most formidable submarine class. This nuclear-powered submarine is capable of launching ballistic missiles and is armed with nuclear weapons. The Dmitry Donskoy, the first of six submarines in this class, entered service in 1981 and remains operational in the Russian Navy's fleet today. These submerged vessels provide comfortable living space for a crew of 160 people, enabling them to stay aboard for up to 120 days. The Typhoon-class submarine spans a length of 175 meters, a width of 23 meters, and a depth of 12 meters. Powered by two nuclear reactors, two 50,000-horsepower steam turbines, and four 3,200-kilowatt turbo-generators, it travels at a surface speed of 22.2 knots and an underwater speed of 27 knots.
