In this video, we are visiting the second house of Giichi Tanaka.
Born the third son of a low ranking samurai family in Hagi, Nagato province (modern day Yamaguchi perfecture) Japan. Giichi Tanaka was a general in the Imperial Japanese Army, a politician, cabinet minister and a Prime Minister serving from 1927 to 1929.
Promoted to Major General in 1911, and full general in 1920. He was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun 1st class, and elevated to the rank of Baron, danshaku, in the Kazoku peerage system.
During the Edo period, this site was the location of a large fief that produced 16,000 koku. Later, being the site where Takamasa Obata would plant his Natsu Mikan orchard (Summer Tangerine grove) that would later prove instrumental for the ex-samurai elites who lost their living and status at the end of the Edo period.
