Borei-class submarines
The Project 955 Borei-class submarines, also known as the Dolgorukiy-class submarines, are the newest and most advanced nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines in the Russian Navy. The Borei-class submarines were designed to replace the aging Delta III and Delta IV-class submarines and to provide a more powerful and advanced nuclear deterrent.
The Borei-class submarines have a length of 170 meters, a beam of 13.5 meters, and a displacement of 24,000 tons when submerged. They are equipped with advanced weapons systems, including 16 R-30 Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) that can each carry up to six nuclear warheads.
The Borei-class submarines are also designed to be stealthy and difficult to detect, with a low acoustic signature and advanced sonar systems. They are powered by a nuclear reactor that provides unlimited range and endurance, and they can travel at speeds of up to 30 knots while submerged.
the Russian Navy had three Borei-class submarines in service: the Yuri Dolgorukiy, the Alexander Nevsky, and the Vladimir Monomakh. Two more submarines, the Knyaz Vladimir and the Knyaz Oleg, were under construction. The Borei-class submarines are considered to be a key component of Russia's nuclear deterrent and are among the most advanced submarines in the world.
