Fireworks lit up the sky over France on Thursday as the country celebrated Bastille Day.
At the Eiffel Tower, the iconic Parisian monument was seen lit up in the colours of the French national Tricoloure flag before erupting into a dramatic fireworks performance.
A firework show also took place in the coastal city of Brest in Brittany where they lit up the boats moored in the harbour.
The Bastille was a famous prison that was a symbol of the absolute and arbitrary power of the French monarch.
The day commemorates the storming of the prison on 14 July 1789, an event which marked the beginning of the French Revolution.
