The state of Arizona contains a surprisingly high number of recent volcanoes which have erupted on areas ranging from the Grand Canyon to the Arizona-Mexico border. One of these young volcanic fields is located east of the town of Show Low, and was once one of the most active volcanoes in the entirety of the United States. It produced hundreds of cinder cone and lava dome forming eruptions which occurred about once every 4,400 years for 1.8 million years. This video will discuss this volcanic complex, which is associated with several large explosion craters in eastern Arizona.
