The International Scissor Sharpeners Association begun in 2007 by a sharpener in Cyprus. Members adhere to a code of ethical behavior. See the ISSA blog for details. [ Ссылка ]
Not all members are certified. Certified sharpeners pass a written test and correctly sharpen two shears, one to be beveled and the other convex. They are graded on the following...
1) Cut through wet tissue
2) Cut through dry hair without pushing
3) Sharpened at the angle of your normal selection for the shear quality and a salon that cuts both dry and wet hair for a mixed clientele.
4) Quiet when opening and closing.
5) Cosmetically pleasing
Judging will be made by the Bonika Shears company. These videos show the actual evaluation.

Presented by Bonnie Megowan. Bonnie Megowan is the educator and sharpener with Bonika Shears which is a 30 year old family business owned and operated by the family including Gene her husband who is in charge of sales and Mystie her daughter who is in charge of daily operations. Bonnie is a sought after speaker at hair shows, sharpening conventions and cosmetology schools. She has authored a book, “DIY Care and Repair of Stylist Shears” available in English and Spanish and has produced hundreds of videos on her Youtube channel Bonika Shears. She has trained shear and blade sharpeners both in person, via video chats and at sharpening conventions in all 50 states and dozens of foreign countries. She and her husband teach classes on shear care in cosmetology schools throughout the metro-Atlanta area.
