Jesus ends this letter to the church in Laodicea the same way has did in all the other letters. He gives them and us something to look forward to, hope in, and anticipate in the future.
Revelation 3:21-22 To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (NIV)
In verse 21 Jesus refers to himself as an overcomer. That means while he was here on earth he faced difficulties, temptations and conflicts that he overcame. And because he overcame those things, we’re able to share in this promise to rule and reign with him in the future, if we overcome.
2 Timothy 2:12 And if we think that our present service for him is hard, just remember that some day we are going to sit with him and rule with him. (LB)
