Miner 2049er looks like a Donkey Kong ripoff at first, but the objective is closer to Pac-Man (well, and DK's last stage too I guess), to clear the board rather than reach a goal. Like both Donkey Kong and Pac-Man, picking up powerups temporarily allows you to fight back against the normally invincible enemies.
It's pretty unforgiving. If you die, you lose all progress in a level. It's easy to miss a jump because there's little room for error, and like Mario in Donkey Kong, falling too far will kill poor Bounty Bob.
The most interesting thing about this game, to me, is that it doesn't plug into the cartridge slot like most games. This unusual-shaped cart plugs into the expansion slot like the Speech Synthesizer and printer would. Also, it was made by Tiger, which you may know for their handheld games and electronic toys such as the Furby. Tiger would later buy TI's toy division, which created the Speak & Spell, using the same speech technology.
