Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, May 10 - October 8, 2018. Heavenly Bodies was a blockbuster exhibition that appeared at both the Met Fifth Avenue and at The Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan, New York City. It was the Costume Institute's spring 2018 exhibition. The purpose was to reveal relationships between fashion and the devotional practices and regalia of the Catholic Church.
An important element of the exhibition was the display of papal robes and accessories on loan from the Sistine Chapel of Vatican City, the first time many of these items have appeared outside of Rome. These items were displayed in the Anna Wintour Costume Center at Met Fifth Avenue. Fashions from the early twentieth century to current day were displayed in the Byzantine and medieval galleries, part of the Robert Lehman Wing at Met Fifth Avenue and at the Met Cloisters.
