Lyme disease is often referred to as “The Great Imitator” because the symptoms are often vague and resemble other illnesses. I’ve been a Lyme patient myself and experienced it firsthand. Lyme disease can be mistaken for:
• influenza
• mono
• rheumatoid arthritis

• and many other autoimmune and infectious disease.
Do you have Lyme disease?
Lab testing may help, but tests are not very accurate and often miss people with Lyme. There have been almost 100 different symptoms of Lyme disease reported, but there are some symptoms that consistent across people with Lyme. And, people with acute Lyme disease may look different than those who have had Lyme disease for a while.
In acute Lyme disease, many people experience:
• a high fever
• fatigue
• wandering joint pain, especially low back pain
• muscle aches
• headaches
• numbness or tingling in arms and legs
• swollen lymph nodes
• a condition called Bell’s palsy, where one side of your face starts to droop.
Chronic Lyme Can Look a Little Different.
The symptoms tend to come on quickly and you feel acutely ill. The one physical sign that is characteristic for Lyme disease is a rash that looks like a target or bull’s eye. It usually starts small and spreads for up to several weeks. The rash is not painful or itchy. If you see this rash, there is no doubt that have been infected with Lyme disease. There is no other organism that causes this rash.
Chronic Lyme people also experience:
• brain fog or short-term memory problems
• debilitating fatigue
• chronic headaches
• difficulty walking
• poor balance
• muscle weakness
• stomach or bowel problems
• hormone imbalances
• underactive thyroid problems
• poor or restless sleep
• increased sensitivity to light and sounds
• frequent flushed feelings
• other unexplained skin rashes.
