This short video explains how to create a 1: six billion scale map of the Solar System. Using simple graphics and 3D animation, it takes you on a fascinating and educational journey explaining the speed of light and its relationship to our solar system.
You will understand why it is almost impossible to create a true to scale 'paper' map of the Solar System. It is only by superimposing its structure in a virtual 3D environment, that we gain an accurate insight into its incredible size.
We then go on a high speed tour from the Sun to Pluto and back, using a 3D model of Alice Springs to demonstrate the scaled size of the Solar System.
This is real science made simple for adults and children.
