This is a video of me installing IBM Aptiva Windows 3.1 onto DOSBox. A 2GB hard-disk image was created that the files will be installed too. DOSBox is emulating a Multimedia PC with the CPU type set to 486, 16MB's of RAM, and a 2GB hard-disk image. Also emulated is the Creative Labs SoundBlaster 16 and S3 Trio 32/64 SVGA video adapter. I'm using the latest SVN version of DOSBox proper downloaded from EmuCR (DOSBox-X should work as well.
The emulator treats the image file as a hard-disk, which has to be partitioned and formatted, like the real thing. Later versions of MS-DOS has the 2GB partition limit. I've used 86Box to create the 2GB hard-disk image. The hard-disk image was formatted using IBM PC-DOS 6.3. It seems to be the version of DOS used on the recovery CD, so I downloaded the corresponding version from WinWorld to maintain compatibility. Also linked is the ISO image of the IBM Aptiva Recovery disk that I used to restore Aptiva Windows 3.1 onto. Here is the link:

The zip files containing the recovery files were copied into the root of the HD image which also contains PKUNZIP. The command used to extract the files once copied onto the image is this:
pkunzip.exe -$ -d -JHSR -o PS1*.ZIP C:\
Once executed, the files will be restored to their appropriate directories. Windows will need to be configured to use the S3 video drivers. The SB16 drivers need to be installed as well. Once you can boot Windows, run sysedit and make manual changes to autoexec.bat, config.sys, win.ini, and system.ini. What the video to see which changes were made to each of the files. Once all of that is done, you should have a fully working Aptiva install running on DOSBox!
