The Chinese population comprises many diverse indigenous groups. Some of these are from rural areas where they have been using traditional methods to work the land for generations.
These communities have also been caught up in the rapid industrialization of China and have had to cope with a range of issues.
Melissa Nursey-Bray has extensive experience working with indigenous people in Australia. In this talk she provides a valuable insight into the daily lives of the indigenous people of the Yunnan province of South West China.
She concludes that indigenous minorities face similar issues irrespective of where they live particularly in relation to internal emigration and land use, She also points out that there is the opportunity to learn from the vast storehouse of knowledge and experience of previous generations.
