WCS Midnight Collection 84B DE Safety Razor

The Razor: WCS Midnight Collection 84B DE Safety Razor. This razor is a good deal, currently under $20. The handle is heavy made of 316 steel and has a hybrid bamboo style handle with grippy knurling, while the head is zinc alloy. There are no issues with blade alignment or uneven exposure. The razor has a matte black finish and has a striking look. The shave is in the mild to medium range of efficiency (closer to medium), and feels very comfortable. The angle is easy to find and intuitive. This is a perfect beginner razor and daily driver.

The Soap: Løther Namka. This English artisan soap from Leeds, West Yorkshire is new to the game, but can hang with the best. It creates a low lying dense and slick lather that was developed for performance. The scent is inspired by Oud Palau by French niche fragrance house Diptyque, and is a good rendition. It is 8/10 scent strength oud and rose fragrance, with musk and a touch of vanilla. To me the scent is oud forward, with a background jammy rose. The oud is a clean variety and leaps off the tub, with a “twang” but lacks any of the animalic, camphorous or wild notes found with the natural oud, making come off a bit more versatile a scent. Scent quality is very good: this smells like an expensive niche fragrance.

The Brush: West Coast Shaving Infinity Brush fitted with a 30mm TurnN’Shave “the Tip” 2 band badger knot. This US artisan-made brush handle is a unique ergonomic and comfortable shape with a stunning pour, offered at a competitive price. Look out for the weekly brush drops.

The Bowl: Hand Thrown Shaving Scuttle, Two Toned in blue. A scuttle is a bowl within a bowl. Fill the outer chamber with hot water, and it keeps your lather nice and warm throughout the shave. This hand thrown scuttle is heavy piece of pottery with a nice glossy glaze. There is some variation in the pottery and will all be slightly different. I find the scuttle really elevates my shave and makes it a truly luxurious and relaxing experience, in addition to being a handsome piece for display.

The Aftershave: Lothur Namka. Scent is almost the same as the soap, but with the vanilla slightly more prominent in the splash. The scent in the splash is about a 3/10 strength, and becomes a skin scent after about an hour, but overall, the scent has good persistence and lasts about 5-6 hours. This is an oud and rose fragrance, with musk and a touch of vanilla. To me the scent is oud forward, with a background jammy rose. The oud is a clean variety and leaps off the tub, with a “twang” but lacks any of the animalic, camphorous or wild notes found with the natural oud, making come off a bit more versatile a scent, work safe. Scent quality is very good: this smells like an expensive niche fragrance!
