In an unprecedented achievement, DRDO has rapidly developed 'Ugram,' a potent 7.62mm assault rifle, surpassing the capabilities of the widely used INSAS rifles in just 100 days. Named 'ferocious,' the indigenous rifle, weighing under four kilograms, boasts an effective range of 500 meters. Developed by DRDO's ARDE in Pune, in collaboration with Dvipa Armour India Private Limited, this Rs 60 crore project aims to address the critical shortage of assault rifles in the Indian armed forces, paramilitary, and state police. Rigorous testing, including internal, acceptance, and user trials, precedes its potential induction.
