In the last two years we’ve added over 100 rose bushes to our flower farm. They were selected for cutting, fragrance, or hip production. Over time we’ll see which rose varieties do best in our climate, which produce the best for cutting, and which are more suited to enjoy in the field. For now they’re growing, getting their roots settled in, and hopefully they’ll all make it through the winter. Roses featured in this video are: Sally Holmes, Julia Child, Boscobel, Moonstone, Top Cream, Parfuma Bliss, Munstead Wood, Kiss Me Kate, Lancôme, Cecile Brunner, Mr. Lincoln, Love Song, Koko Loko, Abraham Darby, Peace, State of Grace, Dancing in the Wind, Dainty Bess, Ballerina, Lyda Rose, Champlain, Darlow’s Enigma, Rugosa rose, and Roald Dahl. These are a mix of roses bred by big names like David Austin, Kordes, and Meilland, as well as species roses. Most are own root roses, with a smattering of grafted plants.
Storms have been rolling through with much needed rain, and with them has come a drop in temperatures that really makes it feel like autumn is on the way. There’s a lot to do (always!) to prep the field, rose garden, and other growing spaces for fall and winter. We’ll see how far we get in the next few months!
