Amartya Sen, the Indian economist, philosopher, and public intellectual during more than six decades of teaching and writing, he has transformed the study of famines and the field of welfare economics, work for which, in 1998, he received the Nobel Prize. His ideas of Capability approach, justice, development as freedom have attracted the attention of various scholars.
