Beyond the Height-of-Land 25 Days of High Adventure Camping in the Northern Manitoba Wild - E. 15 - Otters & Pancakes for Dinner: Northern Pike were biting as we traveled by canoe using kayak paddles. We were crossing a massive lake in Northern Manitoba's Seal River system. Over the fire cooking pancakes for dinner, trekking on eskers and backcountry camping in the Manitoba Wilderness is what we did on Day 15 of me and my brother Ted Baird's 25 Day canoe expedition to Hudson Bay, paddling and portaging through sub Arctic wilderness. Wild camping at it's best. After large open water crossings and waves we trek up and esker and find a burnt-down log cabin. The waves died and we paddled the final 10 kms of the day in perfect glass-like conditions before finding an amazing campsite.
