During your driving test, you'll be asked one tell me question and one show me question. You won't fail your driving test for answering one of the questions wrong, but you will get a driving fault/minor for answering incorrectly and you can get a serious or dangerous fault if you lose control of the car when answering the 'show me' question.
You'll be asked one 'tell me' question at the start of the driving test before you begin driving and one 'show me' question whilst you're driving.
You may be asked to tell your examiner how you'd check the power-assisted steering is working before starting a journey. If the steering becomes heavy, the system may not be working properly. Before starting a journey, 2 simple checks can be made:
1) Gentle pressure on the steering wheel, maintained while the engine is started, should result in a slight but noticeable movement as the system begins to operate
2) Alternatively, turning the steering wheel just after moving off will give an immediate indication that the power assistance is functioning.
