Typesetter, printer, political thinker, journalist, editor, goldminer, Irish Volunteer – Arthur Griffith was all of these, and more. The people and places familiar to the founder of Sinn Féin, President of Dáil Éireann, and signatory of the 1922 Anglo-Irish Treaty are covered in this presentation. John Seery gives a sweeping virtual tour through Dublin’s inner city to discuss the impact Arthur Griffith's surroundings and his neighbours had on his life and how these shaped his political outlook. John Seery is a local historian, with a particular specialism on the urban history and development of Dublin. He has a BA in History (Hons) (UCD) and an MA in Political Communications.
Hosted by Beverly Sperry.
